A Case of the Sillies is the B-plot of the 8th episode of the second season of Odd Squad.

Synopsis[]

Dr. O gets an odd illness called the Sillies.

Learning Goal[]

Measurement: using standard measurements to measure capacity and length

Plot[]

Olympia and Otis enter a man's work office to help with his odd problem, but something's different. He doesn't actually have an odd problem, but is complaining how agents are coming through the tubes to his office all the time. Otis explains his dilemma: The man's office is in a really busy spot and tube activity gets directed there. Otis calls for a shut down to this spot, and the pair leave, but not before smashing into a cabinet because the tubes were already closed off.

In the med bay, Dr. O is doing a check-up on our main duo. After saying they're in fine condition she starts uncharacteristically laughing. After noticing this, she forces Olympia and Otis to look into her eyes, and they see what they describe as "a circus on spin cycle". Dr. O declares she has a case of the Sillies, to which Ms. O appears, and explains the Sillies make their victim do and say silly things. Ms. O fortunately has a plan on how to cure Dr. O.

Ms. O has Olympia, Otis, Ocean, Oona, and Dr. O in a huddle informing how Oona and Ocean will work together to obtain an antidote and Olympia and Otis will keep an eye on Dr. O before she succumbs to the Sillies. Just then, Dr. O runs off, yelling maniacally, and her two watchers chase after her. While in the med bay, Oona and Ocean find the antidote recipe from Dr. O's medical handbook. The first ingredient is a tiny storm cloud, which luckily Dr. O already had one of, and they add it to the mixture. Next, they need a six-inch moustache, which are also readily available in another cupboard. They measure the right one with a ruler and drop it into the mixture.

Unfortunately, Dr. O is out of their next item, a prickle bush root, but Ocean knows where to find some more. Meanwhile, Olympia and Otis are looking for Dr. O herself. Whilst their search is happening, Otis gets a call from Dr. O on the other end. Otis immediately suspects this is a prank call, and just after, Olympia spots Dr. O down a nearby corridor. The two charge at her, but are suddenly halted by a plastic wrap trap that was set up by the silly doctor. Olympia and Otis quickly clamber after her when they get past it.

Oona and Ocean arrive at the greenhouse, and they find a prickle bush root. The recipe requires eight inches of the root, which Ocean finds pretty easily. Oona then spots a giant flytrap-looking plant, which she ignorantly reaches her arm towards. When the plant clamps down on it, Ocean tells her she has to sing to get it to let go, much to Oona's annoyance. She sings about her arm, and how she's washed it "twicely, and the plant lets her go. She tries to high-five Ocean, but he very smartly rejects it.

Meanwhile again, Olympia and Otis are searching for Dr. O when they slip on a banana peel. They correctly guess she got it (and the four others they slipped on) from the banana room, assuming she'll be there for them to find. Their hunch is right, and they find the doc, now sporting clown face paint. The pair try to talk it out with Dr. O saying she doesn't have to become silly, and that they'll be able to help her. She then instead blows raspberries at the two, then runs off again, but this time she falls for one of her own tricks, crashing into a wall of plastic wrap.

Oona and Ocean pour the root into the mixture, then look at the final ingredient: A gallon of non-fat strawberry yogurt. Oona pulls out a liquid container then asks where they should get the yogurt. Ocean says he knows a Squanto Bonzo in the Creature Room that cries non-fat strawberry yogurt. But there's a problem, the creature is pretty much always happy, so it'll be a hard effort to get him to cry. Just then, Olympia calls Oona telling her Dr. O has been caught, but in the middle of this, Dr. O is tickling Otis so hard he's crying. Oona takes note of this and decides to use the same method on the Squanzo Bonzo.

After an admittedly very odd scene plays out of Ocean tickling the Squanzo Banzo until it cries enough tears into the container. They then pour it into the recipe mixture, which glows a satisfying color. Olympia and Otis arrive in with the still cackling Dr. O in their arms. Oona and Ocean don't hesitate to, surprisingly, pour the antidote all over her. At the drop of a hat, Dr. O switches back to her stoic, "WHAT'S NEXT?!" declaring self. Dr. O seems to leave but then returns with two silly string dispensers, as that's her way of saying thank you, but also literally says thank you. The episode ends with the affected four picking silly string of themselves, and the Squanzo Bonzo proclaiming, "Best Day Ever."
