Plot (Minor Spoilers Ahead)[]
The episode begins with Olive and Otto arriving on a ski mountain from the tubes. There, Sven Jorgenson, who was is a former villain has a really odd problem. Every time the word "snowball" is said he gets pelted with them. Olive and Otto deliberately keep saying, "snowball" just to annoy Sven, but eventually fix him with the correct gadget.
In the break room, Olive is timing how fast Otto can tie his shoes when some small plastic balls roll into the room. The two go to check it out, where they find the entire ball pit overflowing. Ms. O comes over saying something very odd has happened, which indeed has something to do with the ball pit.
Owen shows a video message to the agents clarifying what happened. It turns out, Odd Todd is responsible for the incident. By stealing the three balls to the ball pit's control room, said ball pit won't stop spewing balls until it has flooded headquarters. Ms. O recounts that something like this happened back in 1983, when she was Ms. O for just one year, they had to build an entire new headquarters. Olive and Otto aren't going to let Odd Todd just destroy headquarters, so they go with Ms. O to figure out how to save it.
Ms. O brings them to the ball pit control room, where three pan scales are unbalanced. To get the ball pit to stop overflowing they have to make the scales equal, but Odd Todd obviously stole the balls that make them equal. Now, Olive and Otto have to hurry, because the balls have already started flooding the room.
Olive and Otto use their shoes to balance the first scale, but they need more materials to balance the other two. They decide to search through Otto's locker, which has six-years worth of junk in it. Meanwhile, Ms. O is rowing through the river of plastic balls on a raft, searching for any lost agents. She finds Owen, who says he saw Olaf in the bullpen, getting his potato.
Back in the control room, the is gradually filling up with more balls. The two use Otto's junk to balance the green ball, which is twice as heavy as the yellow ball. In the sea of plastic balls, Ms. O has found Olaf, going for his potato and potentially risking his life. Ms. O calls him back however, by pulling out another potato for him. Ms. O throws a life ring to him. The original potato sadly then sinks below the plastic spheres.
Olive and Otto still can't get the green ball's scale to balance properly. Just then, Ms. O rows in and tells her agents to climb aboard, that Odd Squad headquarters has been lost to the balls. She pulls up the anchor, which is a large juice box. Seeing this, Olive and Otto try weighing it on the scale. It's perfectly balanced, but they still need to balance the third scale. Since the blue ball is twice as heavy as the green ball, they need two of Ms. O's giant juice boxes. The three of them row off to the Lab where the boxes are located.
They reach the lab, and Ms. O confidently dives headfirst into the plastic ball sea. She emerges with two giant juice boxes, ready to balance that scale. The three of them clamber back to the control room, although only Otto can be seen above the balls, since he's taller. Otto sets the the giant boxes of juice on the scale, thereby ending he ball pit flood.
Finally, all the balls disappear under a hole behind the Odd Squad Seal. Otto then proclaims to Ms. O she's now only lost one headquarters instead of two. Ms. O says she's lost way more headquarters then just one, every year after 1983. Her two agents express bewilderment as the episode ends.
Trivia[]
- The name of the episode is based on the movie "Joe vs. the Volcano".
- There are several parodies of James Cameron's Titanic in the episode, but the most notable one is when Olaf's potato sinks into the sea of balls. However, the potato was saved after the balls drained back down.
- Ms. O states that she has lost a lot of headquarters in the past due to various accidents.
