A Job Well Undone is the B-plot of the 11th episode of Season 2 of Odd Squad.

Synopsis[]

Olympia and Otis compete with Orson to win Agents of the Month.

Learning Goal[]

  • Numbers and Operations: solving addition and subtraction problems using a number line and other strategies

Plot[]

In the intro of the episode, Olympia and Otis help a lady with her odd problem: everything she touches begins to turn yellow. They suspect she has banana-itis, and she is eating way too many per day. They let her off by telling her she just needs to stop eating so many, and they leave, but not the lady is tempted by one more banana on the table.

While working at their desk, Ms. O, who happens to be wearing a new scarf, comes over to Olympia and Otis to congratulate them on winning the "Agents of the Month" award for solving the most amount of cases. She mentions it was the first time anyone on the squad has beaten Agent Orson, who, ironically, is being a baby over it. All the winning pair has to do is turn in their paperwork to officially receive the award, or else Orson will get it by default. Olympia isn't worried about her paperwork, but Otis happens to be behind on his. Olympia wants to help him so they can get their award as soon as possible, however Otis insists he can do it himself, and runs off to the file room to get the job done.

Otis enters the file room with his finished paperwork and gives it the reception girl, Opa. She puts it in a scanning machine, that seems to accept his paperwork, but Opa tells Otis there's something wrong with it. Opa doesn't tell him what exactly is wrong, so Otis asks for a hint. Opa gives him the hint about which case number is wrong in the form of a subtraction problem. The case number was 103, five less than the case number where the man's pants were caught on fire because he was lying, which was 108. Otis manages to find that he didn't sign the person's name he helped on the file, but he's apparently supposed go to the person with a yellow slip and have them sign that. So, Otis begrudgingly go to complete his other side task.

Over at the office building Hopkins works at, Otis arrives in the middle of a meeting. Otis wants the slip signed right away, but is then interrupted by the man giving the meeting, and then a birthday party for one of Hopkins' coworkers. Hours later, after the party is over, Hopkins finally sign Otis' slip. Otis is returning to the file room, while speaking to Olympia on his badge phone. Olympia really wants Otis to get his paperwork in, before they lose to Orson, but her partner says she has nothing to worry about. Otis gets his paperwork scanned again, and it's rejected again. Opa gives him another clue about his error in the form of a math question. It was halfway between the case with the guy with an elephant nose (19) and and the lady with laminitis (27). The case number was 23. Otis forgot to write down what gadget he used, and now he has to do a detailed pencil sketching of it, so he can turn the case file in.

While Otis is trying (and failing) to sketch the gadget, Ms. O reminds him that he needs to turn his paper before the hour is up, or else Orson will obviously get the "Agents of the Month" award. Otis returns again, and Opa doesn't hide the fact that something is wrong. She gives him another vague hint using math, and Otis knows he has do something absurd once he figures it out. The case number was 38, fifteen more than the previous case. He finds that he didn't write down what he rescued from the Forest of Doom, which was a golden egg. Somewhere else, Otis speaks to the king he gifted the golden egg to, and take three pictures of it, and staple them to Form 589B. The king sorrowful tells him the egg is no more, as it has been completely fried for his breakfast.

Otis then calls his partner, and apologizes that he couldn't turn in his paperwork because the king ate the egg he needed. Olympia is confused at Otis' words, because all she had to do was her papers in the box, and Ms. O picked them up. Otis tells Olympia about Opa and her shenanigans, which leads her to question who Opa is. Otis, coming to the horrific realization rushes back to the file room to confront "Opa." Otis enters with Olympia, and he knows exactly what's going on. The clues were there the whole time: the teething ring, the baby bottle, and the bib. Otis uses his Un-Mask-Inator to reveal it was Orson, who was trying to win the "Agents of the Month" award for himself.

Ms. O appears, congratulates the two rightful winners, before she then decides to give Orson the award instead. Olympia uses her Un-Mask-Inator, revealing...another Orson. The real Ms. O congratulates her two rightful winners, but not before Olympia tries to use the Un-Mask-Inator suspecting another Orson. She gives them the award, and then Olympia breaks out into a speech thanking everyone for making her success possible. Otis and Ms. O have no clue who she's talking to, and the episode ends with Otis awkwardly dragging his enthusiastic partner offscreen.
